Rules for Living
There are many "rules for living" out there. Over the years working with students and young adults I have designed a simple set of rules which I think work best in all situations. I call them the 3 Rules.
Whether you're trying to manage a classroom, mentor teenagers, teach your children respect, or looking for some guidance yourself, the 3 Rules can help. They are meant to be used by anyone, for anyone, in any situation, and for any teachable moment. I've used them in classrooms, sports teams, and with my own nieces and nephews.
The basic rules are very simple: treat people with kindness and respect, at all times, and listen to the adults trying to teach you how. There's also a little extra guidance for reflecting on how you handle situations. You can learn to follow these rules, and it's very simple.
Along with the 3 Rules there's actually a couple more. I'm not trying to trick anyone. the 3 Rules themselves are to-the-point, adaptive yet not too broad, and are quick to pick up. However, the Chrome rule will guide you in following the three rules on a daily basis. the Iron Ore rule will help you turn your feelings into positive actions in the future. Beyond just the 3 Rules and the guide rules there is plenty of room to expand and grow with children to accommodate new scenarios, feelings, and life lessons.
