the Iron Ore Rule

Common Sense

the Iron Ore "Rule"

I call this the "Common Sense" rule. You could also consider this line of thought as reverse justification. Basically, the rule is:

If you don't like it done to you, don't do it to others.

It serves as a sort of antithesis to the Golden Rule, which promotes you to take action in accordance with your desired experiences. the Iron Ore rule, on the other hand, promotes taking action to avoid treating others in ways you've experienced to be unpleasant.

If you are justified in doing something, then so be it. But was that other person justified in treating you the way they did? Don't treat others the same way.

is Common Sense Common

In a comical way, you could ask yourself, "is common sense really that common?" From a certain point of view you might argue that it indeed is rare these days. People tend to act on feeling and emotion regardless of how their actions or words affect other people.

universal Truths

Humanity can assuredly agree on some universal truths, can't we?

No one person is worth any more or less than another...

Every person deserves respect...

Those who can't take care of themselves should be well taken care of by those who can spare...

We need to love others (in action and deed) more than we hate them...

We are all one race - the human race - and should begin acting like a unified people with the same goals about life, happiness, love, and health...

These ideas can lead us to realize we are all intrinsically the same. Maybe some of us are more well off than others. Maybe some of us had to work harder than others to achieve our goals. Maybe some of us have suffered immense pain. Maybe some of us have knowingly or unknowingly inflicted pain on others. But we all need food, shelter, care, and love to survive. If we all treated each other with the same 3 Rules we might even begin to thrive and global community.
